Competition format

The team and individual Junior World Championships comprise exercises on each of the various apparatus to determine the Team Junior World Champion (from qualifications), the All-around Junior World Champion (from qualifications) and the Junior World Champion on each apparatus (Apparatus Finals)

The qualifications (which also include the All-around Final and the Team Final) and the Apparatus Finals will be conducted according to the 2019 FIG Technical Regulations, including Section 2 for Artistic Gymnastic, Reg. 5.1.

During qualifications, a team shall be composed of not more than two or three gymnasts, two or three may compete on any single piece of apparatus and the two highest scores will be taken into account for the team total. For the All-around Final, a maximum of two gymnasts per country will appear in the ranking.

In order to qualify for the Apparatus Finals, a gymnast must compete and earn a score on every apparatus in qualifications (i.e. he/she must obtain an All-around score). A maximum of two gymnasts per country may qualify for the Apparatus Finals.

PARTICIPATION RIGHTS

Junior gymnasts holding a valid FIG License until the end of the competition and with the correct age from FIG affiliated federations in good standings may take part in these championships. The age of the participating male gymnasts must be 16 or 17 years old (born 2002 or 2003) and the age of the female gymnasts 14 or 15 years old (born 2004 or 2005).

The federations permitted to send a team of two to three gymnasts and one reserve gymnast to these championships are:

  • the federations that qualified a position for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games through their respective continental championships (regardless if their YOG qualifying place was accepted or rejected), or
  • any federation with a gymnast who appeared in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games “Entry List By NOC”, except for the Universality Places.

Federations allowed to send a team for Men’s Artistic Gymnastics: ARG, AZE, BEL, BRA, CAN, CHN, CZE, ECU, EGY, FRA, GBR, GER, HUN, IRI, ISR, ITA, JPN, KAZ, KOR, LAT, NOR, NZL, PUR, ROU, RSA, RUS, SRB, SWE, TPE, TUR, UKR, USA, UZB, VEN, VIE.

Federations allowed to send a team for Women’s Artistic Gymnastics: ALG, ARG, AUS, BLR, BRA, CAN, CHN, CRC, EGY, ESP, FIN, FRA, GBR, GER, GRE, GUA, HUN, IRL, ITA, JPN, KOR, LTU, MAS, MEX, POR, PUR, ROU, RSA, RUS, SGP, SRI, SWE, TUR, UKR, USA, UZB, VIE.

If these Federations decide not to send a team at all or send an individual gymnast only, no other team will be designated to fill in the empty position.

TIE BREAKING RULES (ACCORDING TO FIG TECHNICAL REGULATIONS 2019)

Qualification to all finals: In the case of a tie, at any place the tie will be broken as follows:

Qualification for Apparatus Finals

In case of a tie in points, at any place on any apparatus, except for Vault, in qualification for apparatus finals, the ranking will bedetermined by the following criteria:

  1. The gymnast with the highest E-score prevails.
  2. The gymnast with the highest D-score prevails.

If they remain tied, the gymnasts will share the same classification.

In case of a tie in points, at any place on Vault, in qualification for the apparatus finals, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:

  1. The highest of the 2 vaults before the average for the final score.
  2. The highest E-score of either vault performed.
  3. The highest D-score of either vault performed.

If there is still a tie, the tie will not be broken.

Qualification for All-around Finals

In case of a tie, in points at any place for qualification for the All-around Finals, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:

  1. The gymnast with the highest sum of the final apparatus scores obtained will prevail (i.e. add the total of the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 of the highest final apparatus scores for men / the total of the 3, 2, 1 highest final apparatus scores for women).
  2. If they remain tied, the highest total E-score by adding all apparatus will prevail.
  3. If they remain tied, the highest total D-score by adding all apparatus will prevail.

If they remain tied, the gymnasts will share the same classification.

Qualification for Team Finals

In case of a tie, in points at any place in qualification for the Team Finals, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:

  1. The team with the highest sum of the team apparatus counting scores obtained will prevail (i.e. the total of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 highest apparatus team scores for men and the total of 3, 2, 1 highest apparatus team scores for women)

If they remain tied the teams will share the same classification.
